School Support Services

Language Disorder Australia offers a fully funded service for students with Language Disorder.

The program is a multidisciplinary consultative service, which aims to improve education opportunities and learning outcomes for students with disability.

Our service complements existing supports within your school. We encourage the inclusion of all key stakeholders, including school staff, family members and allied health professionals, when referring to our service.

Eligibility – SDSS

  • Are in Prep to Year 12 and enrolled in a school in Queensland (State, Catholic or Independent)
  • Students who were recorded in the latest submission of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) as receiving:
    -supplementary
    -substantial
    -or extensive adjustments

OR

  • New to the school (including Prep students): School has evidence of a diagnosed disability and has confirmed by the end of Term 1 that the adjustments provided are consistent with the descriptors for either supplementary, substantial or extensive in the NCCD Guidelines
    – Supplementary: Student receives adjustments supplementary to the strategies and resources already available for all students within the school for particular activities at specific times throughout the week.
    – Substantial: Student has substantial support needs and receives essential adjustments and requires considerable assistance to the usual educational program at most times, on most days.
    – Extensive: Student has very high support needs and is provided with extensive targeted measures and sustained levels of intensive support at all times.

Service includes

  • Classroom observation.
  • Informal multidisciplinary assessment.
  • Consultation with school staff and key stakeholders to identify the student’s strengths and support needs.
  • Collaborative goal setting.
  • Comprehensive report containing strategies and recommendations to support student learning and educational outcomes.

  • Four-session intensive support block targeting student goals through a capacity building model for school staff.
  • Report unpacking.
  • Professional development.


NSSNOP – School Support Services for Eligible Students – Prep to Year 3

This service funded by the Non-State Special Needs Organisation Program (NSSNOP) supports students in Prep to Year 3 who are experiencing difficulties developing adequate language skills for learning.

Please note – access to this service will be dependent on current availability – please speak with our team for further information.

The program is a fully funded service, which aims to promote early identification and positive educational outcomes for students suspected of having Language Disorder.

School Suppport Services also provides a range of resources to school staff to increase their understanding of and differentiated teaching practices for students with Language Disorder.

When referring to our service, we strongly encourage collaboration with all key stakeholders who may be a part of the student’s support team, including family members and allied health professionals.

  • Students who are experiencing difficulties accessing the curriculum as a result of suspected language difficulties.
  • Prep to Year 3 students.
  • Enrolled in State, Catholic and Independent schools across Queensland.

Service includes

  • Classroom observation.
  • Informal multidisciplinary assessment.
  • Consultation with school staff and key stakeholders to identify the student’s strengths and support needs.
  • Collaborative goal setting.
  • Comprehensive report containing strategies and recommendations to support student learning and educational outcomes.
